A new law (Senate File 75) went into effect this summer requiring Iowa counties that are home to one of Iowa’s three regent universities, including Johnson County, to elect their county supervisors by districts, rather than at-large.
In December, the Johnson County Board of Supervisors approved a district plan that splits the county into the five following districts, each with approximately 30,000 people:
District 1: North Liberty, Shueyville, Swisher, Oxford and the northwestern portion of the county
District 2: The eastern part of the county, including Solon, Hills, Lone Tree, West Branch and a portion of Eastern Iowa City
District 3: Parts of central and southwestern unincorporated Johnson County, as well as Coralville and Tiffin
District 4: The north side of Iowa City
District 5: University Heights and parts of west and south Iowa City
With the new district plan, all five supervisor seats will be on the ballot in November 2026. Voters will vote for a single member based on where they live.
To create staggered terms, some supervisor districts will be assigned two-year terms and other four-year terms. The county auditor randomly selected the term length. Districts, 2, 3, and 4 will begin as two-year terms and Districts 1 and 5 will be four-year terms.
The following candidates will be on the primary ballot on June 2. Incumbents are marked with an asterisk.

District 2: Jessica Andino (D), Janet Godwin (D), Jon Green (D)*, Phil Hemingway (R)
District 3: Sue Dvorsky (D), Jennie Wunderlich (R)
District 4: V Fixmer-Oraiz (D)*, Rod Sullivan (D)*
District 5: Mandi Remington (D)*, Joe Reilly (D)
