Community Leadership Program

Participating in the Greater IC Community Leadership Program, first as a student and now as a member of the Planning Committee, has been an enriching journey. I've not only expanded my network significantly, forging valuable connections with like-minded individuals, but I've also formed deep friendships with people who share my passion for community betterment. The program has provided me unparalleled access to a diverse range of established leaders, exposing me to insights and perspectives that have shaped my own leadership approach. I’m so grateful for the program and highly recommend to anyone seeking to stretch themselves, meet amazing people, and dig into this community.

My time in the CLP flew by too quickly. As someone who was somewhat shy, I gained a wealth of knowledge about how the various systems in our community function. While I wish I had been more proactive in building relationships during the program, I've since connected with several cohort members and continue to cherish those connections. CLP not only expanded my understanding but also encouraged me to step out of my comfort zone, fostering both personal and professional growth.

Through CLP I gained a deeper understanding of how our community works and developed relationships with a diverse group of community leaders. Because of that experience, I was inspired to run for - and win - a seat on the Iowa City City Council. I continue to rely upon the relationships I built during CLP to help guide me as I make decisions that will shape our region's future.

I've long been interested in the CLP program, and I finally was able to participate this past year. It did not disappoint! The opportunity to learn about so many different aspects of our community that I would not otherwise be exposed to makes me a better, more effective businesswoman. My capacity for creating meaningful connections among these new networks is markedly improved.

CLP was a life changing experience for me. I've lived in Iowa City/Johnson county my whole life and I can confidently say I learned more about our great community during my time in CLP than I had in the 30 years prior living here. CLP is an absolute must for anyone wanting to learn about our community, connect with like minded community leaders, and create friendships and experiences that will last a lifetime. I'm forever grateful for CLP and encourage anyone, no matter how long you've lived here, to apply. It truly is a game changer and something that will enhance your own life and your community for many years to come!

It has been remarkable to be involved in CLP! The program allows you the opportunity to get a backstage view at the major stakeholders in the area that are out there doing the work to make our community a better place, garnering better understating of important sectors we may have had little knowledge of previously. I feel more connected to my city than ever, plus you build such a strong bond with your fellow classmates that will last far outside the program. I aspire to take the collective experiences I had to bridge my own community engagement and impact. Thank you, CLP!

I would challenge anyone to find an engaged and active community leader that has not been involved in CLP in some manner.
