Eastern Iowa is coming together to strengthen its workforce through skills-based solutions. On September 24-25, community leaders, employers, and educators will gather in Iowa City for the ACT Work Ready Communities Boot Camp, a hands-on training designed to help participants build the tools and strategies needed to boost work readiness and improve job candidacy. Greater Iowa City, Inc. is proud to support and participate in this boot camp as we continue working to develop a stronger workforce.
This two-day event focuses on measurable skill benchmarks that connect job seekers, whether youth or adult, with employer needs. By leveraging the ACT National Career Readiness Certificate, a nationally recognized credential that verifies essential workplace skills in areas like applied math, workplace documents, and graphic literacy, much of the groundwork is already in place.
Work Ready Communities offer value across the board to all stakeholders. Employers can reduce turnover and boost productivity by gaining a clearer understanding of job candidates’ abilities. Educators can align their curriculum with in-demand skills so students are better prepared for the workplace. Workforce and economic developers are able to connect credentialed candidates to career pathways and attract new jobs and investment. Community leaders can benefit as well, since stronger pipelines and workforce solutions can improve quality of life.
The ACT Work Ready Communities Boot Camp will take place on September 24 from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM and September 25 from 8:30 AM to 12:00 PM in Iowa City, with the exact venue to be announced soon. This day-and-a-half training is open to anybody who wants to take an active role in shaping Johnson County’s workforce. Registration is available now here, and more information about the national movement can be found at workreadycommunities.org.
The Boot Camp is the next step in building a skills-first community. Your participation can help make it possible.
