Neighborhood Meetings Are Underway for Our Strategic Investment Districts

We are kicking off our Strategic Investment Districts with a series of open-house neighborhood meetings and you are invited to help shape what comes next.

Last fall, Greater Iowa City, Inc. introduced a new initiative rooted in place-based economic development. Our Strategic Investment Districts focus on the unique identity of three key areas in Iowa City, North Liberty, and Coralville. The goal is to attract investment, create jobs, and enhance quality of life. By focusing on smaller, high-potential districts, we can strengthen neighborhoods and create a ripple effect of growth across our region.

Our three Strategic Investment Districts include:

At the heart of each district’s success is a community-led charrette process. These collaborative workshops will be guided by local experts in planning, design, and development, all working alongside residents to bring forward creative and practical visions for each neighborhood.

These charrettes are only as strong as the voices behind them. That is why we are hosting open neighborhood meetings to welcome ideas, feedback, and inspiration from the people who live and work in each district. Your input will help ensure that every plan reflects the character of the neighborhood while building a stronger local economy for the future.

Everyone is invited, including residents, workers, business owners, and other community members. These meetings are a chance to connect with neighbors, learn about upcoming opportunities, and influence decisions that will shape the places we live, work, and play.

Neighborhood Meeting Schedule:

  • Cherry Street (North Liberty): Wednesday, May 14 from 6:00 to 7:00 PM at Heyn’s Ice Cream, North Liberty
  • Sycamore (Iowa City): Monday, June 16 from 4:00 to 6:00 PM. Location TBA
  • 5th Street (Coralville): Time and location TBA

Neighborhood meetings will be held in coordination with each district’s charrette schedule. Join us to share your vision and help guide smart, community-centered investment.

At Greater Iowa City, Inc., we believe that strong communities are built by including local voices in the planning process. Together, we can turn bold ideas into practical solutions that reflect who we are and where we are headed.
