Local elections are rapidly approaching, and Greater Iowa City, Inc.’s annual Voter Guide is here to help you learn more about the candidates and issues on this year’s ballot.
While Greater Iowa City, Inc. is a non-partisan entity and does not formally endorse or donate to political candidates, we do encourage our members to be informed about issues and vote for business and community-friendly candidates and initiatives when they go to the polls.
We asked candidates to answer what they hope to accomplish while in office and how it will benefit the business community. We also asked how they would make city processes more predictable for businesses and their perspective on using tax incentives to spur economic development.
In addition to candidate profiles, we’ve also included information on the 1% Local Option Sales Tax on the ballot in Iowa City, Coralville, and North Liberty. Our three largest municipalities are among only 17 cities in the entire state of Iowa not collecting this tax. This tax will help us capture and reinvest what visitors are already spending in Johnson County and allow each community to fund what matters to their residents.
At the front of our Voter Guide, we included a Voter Toolkit where you can find your polling location, information on how to vote early, register to vote, and more.
We hope these resources provide valuable insight on candidates and issues so you can feel confident when voting on November 4. Local elections matter. Make your voice heard!
